What is a Waitlist

Most programs at VCC have limited seat capacity, and many programs can fill up soon after the application periods are open. Even if all program seats are offered, seats may still become available if offers are not accepted, if accepted students withdraw their applications, or if additional program seats become available.

Students are encouraged to apply as soon as the application periods begin, so the chance of getting an offer may be higher. When program seats are filled, qualified applicants will be placed on waitlists and get notified if seats become available.

One-Time Waitlist Notification

Applications are accepted when the availability status shows "Apply Now". If seats are full or reserved, applicants will receive a one-time waitlist notification. Qualified applicants will be placed on a waitlist and get notified only if seats become available. There will be no regular updates of the waitlist status, and waitlist positions are not provided.

Number of Students on a Waitlist

Until all offers are accepted, VCC will continue to accept applications on the waitlist. If program seats are all filled, VCC will keep a small waitlist and will close the program for applications. The number of students on the waitlist depends on the overall capacity of the program and intake.

Waiting for a Seat

Even if a program is full, seats may become available due to student cancellations or additional sessions added. Being on the waitlist does not guarantee an offer or a program seat. There is no regular update available, and waitlisted applicants will only be contacted if an offer is available.

Many factors influence how long a student may be on the waitlist, including program capacity, offer acceptance rate, study permit approval rates and student cancellation. Therefore, it's difficult to estimate how long a student may be on a waitlist. Some students receive offers within a few weeks, and some never get offers.

Expired Waitlists

Waitlisted applicants will be withdrawn from their waitlisted intakes by the study permit approval submission deadline if no seats become available. Before the waitlists expire, applicants should consider applying for future intakes to avoid having to re-apply and pay the application fee again.

Chance of Getting a Seat

Seats are offered in the order of complete application received date, when admission requirements are met. Waitlisted applicants are encouraged to apply to available future intakes to start the study permit application process. Closer to the program start dates, seats may open up, and students who meet all conditions and have a valid study permit with VCC as a DLI will have a higher chance of receiving an offer.

Consider Future Intakes

Being on the waitlist does not guarantee a seat, and the wait time cannot be estimated. Waitlisted applicants will not be moved automatically to the next available intake. As we cannot assume all waitlisted applicants are interested in future intakes, students must inform VCC to confirm their applications to other intakes.

The application fee is non-refundable even if no seat becomes available. However, there is no additional fee to add a future intake for the same program, before the waitlist expires. To request a future intake, email ieadmissions@vcc.ca with your name, student ID and waitlisted program, as soon as the application periods are open. If you decide to change to a different program, you must re-apply.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: You may request a one-time program change without having to re-apply if all of the following criteria are met.

  1. You meet the admission requirements of the new program.
  2. You agree to withdraw from the initially waitlisted program.
  3. The new program has space available.
  4. Your program change request is received at least 6 months before the start date of your initially accepted program.

If you meet all of the above criteria, you may officially request to change programs by emailing ieadmissions@vcc.ca with your name, student ID and initially accepted program name.
